A Celebration of Women's Voices

Saturday, March 11, 2006
7:30pm - 10:30pm
The Mobius
Ashland, OR
A Celebration of Women's Voices, Saturday
March 11, brings together a dynamic combination of song and spoken
word for an evening of empowerment, passion, laughter and community
connection! Musical performances range from the rich resonances of
digeredoo and devotional songs, to danceable reggae and luscious Earthy-soul
grooves. Music by Kat and Windsong (Reggae-Earth-Soul), Aletha Nowitski
(loop machine artistry), Nancy Bloom (songs of the sacred Earth) Yaffa
Rosenthal (heartsongs for all to sing), and Eostar (mystic music weaving
digereedoo and voice).
The event features Katie Daley,
performance poet extraordinaire, opening her West Coast Tour of "Full
Blast Alive: Voices from the Ruby Side" poetic monologues by
female characters with a wild medley of accents and attitudes who
jam about jealousy, body image, unorthodox self-defense classes for
women, breaking out of jukeboxes, breast cancer activism and so much
more! Decedent desserts will be provided by KSKQ- Helping KSKQ Community
Radio get on the air.
"This is one you don't
want to miss," says Michael Salinger, author of
Neon and Education Director of Poetry Slam Incorporated, "Katie
is dialectically ambidextrous... and wonderfully entertaining."
Katie has performed her poetry and songs in Europe, Canada and America.
From 1999 to 2002, she appeared at the National Poetry Slam as a member
of the Ithaca and Cleveland slam teams. She has produced two chapbooks,
Red Hot Mangoes and Voodoo Juice and Coyote at the Wheel, and a CD
of her show, Full Blast Alive: Voices from the Ruby Side. "Katie
Daley is taking poetry to a new level with this show," declares
Daniel Thompson, the late poet laureate of Ohio's Cuyahoga County,
"I expect to see her on Broadway very soon."
Nancy Bloom's soul-stirring
songs are woven from global strands of mystical melodies. She will
perform inspirational music from her newly released CD, Sweet
Sacred Mystery
Nancy "expresses the great voice
and great song that we all carry in our hearts (in her) timeless and
extremely moving compositions" -Trevor Watson, Vision Magazine.
Windsong and
Kat del Rio play graceful originals in their own unique styles
with sweet harmonies, and earthy rhythmic grooves that flow from Ballads
to Reggae to Earthsongs to Sweet Earthy Soul Songs.
Composer and performance artist Aletha
Nowitzky, with her loop machine and her body in motion, is
an absolute original as she soars on a self-styled "heaventrilloquest".
Yaffa and Eostar
both share their heart-crafted songs, as well as leading joyful group
singing as audiences emerge into a choir of ecstatic community. Yaffa
Rosenthal melts hearts with songs that radiate infinite love and healing.
Eostar's voice and digeredoo expressions vibrate with color and light!

Ashland, OR

For
30 years, Holly Near has been a profound and beautiful voice for world
peace and is one of the founding mothers of the genre "women's
music." Near's songs continue to astound, exploding with freedom,
maturity, wisdom, and relentless hope. Holly will perform an

Information for both events at www.grandmothercouncil.org.
Tickets for Hollys concert are $25 and available at The Music Coop (in
the "A" Street Marketplace) in Ashland.
Holly Near is a unique combination of entertainer,
teacher and activist. An immense vocal talent, Near's career as a singer
has been profoundly defined by an unwillingness to separate her passion
for music from her passion for human dignity. She is a skilled performer
and an outspoken ambassador for peace who brings to the stage an integration
of world consciousness, spiritual discovery, and theatricality. Near
has released over 20 recordings and performed across the globe for decades,
inspiring and empowering the world toward unity.
A peace activist and advocate for human and civil rights,
Holly has linked the multitude of issues that are our lives, refusing
the idea of separate "causes. When asked how she keeps her energy
for this work, she smiles. "I am selfish. I reach for the world
I want to live in. And I believe in leaving our best we can do to our
children".
Near has received numerous accolades for her work for
social change. Most notably, she is part of the nomination for "1000
Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005". She has also received honors
from the A.C.L.U., the National Lawyers Guild, the National Organization
for Women, N.A.R.A.S., Ms. Magazine (Woman of the Year), and the Legends
of Women's Music Award. And her strength and versatility as a performer
has led to creative collaborations with such artists as Ronnie Gilbert,
Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Mercedes Sosa, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Inti-Illimani,
Bonnie Raitt, Cris Williamson, and Linda Tillery.
"It is a tribute to a movement, a music and
a time to have in our midst artists who carry with them 30 years of
experience and activism. Holly Near holds global vision and artistic
integrity with grace and wisdom. Her music is a collective memory
of a time when we changed the world forever. Michigan
Womyns Music Festival, 2002 "Its a deeply moving inspiration
to be in an audience that spontaneously stands up, en masse, and chooses
to be counted among the growing numbers of people who, like Holly,
thrive on the personal satisfaction and joy that come with living
our lives on the cutting edge. Her powerful presence is a call to
courage, combined with her personal warmth - she's irresistible."
- John Mifsud, Coordinator of The Thirtieth National
Conference on Men and Masculinity at Seattle University.
